A lifelong study of movement…
My study of diverse movement began at four years old immersed in the ethnic dance community.
With a career spanning 40 years, my training would include Moroccan Shikhat, Middle Eastern folkloric, Southern European folkdances, Odissi of East India, eventually specialising in American Fusion Bellydance. As a professional stage performer, my reputation for distinctive choreographies and sophisticated musicality inspired others to describe me as a dancer’s dancer.
Yoga arrived on my shores of awareness over 20 years ago whilst searching for stress relief. Departing class each week, I felt calm, rejuvenated, and empowered with a renewed clarity of thought. As the years passed, I explored a wide range of styles including Hatha, Iyengar, Astanga, Scaravelli, Yin, Restorative, and Viniyoga. It was ten years of study before I felt worthy enough to consider teaching, and I strive to demonstrate that respect for yoga in the refinement of my methodologies.
Yoga is not an exercise class. It’s an opportunity to allow our time on the mat to transform us, to encounter our true selves exactly as we are. Managing my own osteoarthritis and osteopeania at mid-life has enabled me to share the value of appreciating the changing body without apology.
